No tour for the Dave Matthews Band in 2011, will be back in 2012
The Dave Matthews Band has been touring for close to two decades, but think it is time to take a year’s break. The only sad part of it all are the fans that are use to the annual gigs, which has become a tradition.
On their official website, the group has posted, “We feel lucky that our tours are a part of so many people’s lives, and wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible,” and went on to say, “We’re excited to make this summer one of our best tours yet, and look forward to returning to the road in 2012.”
They gave the announcement just prior to beginning their 2010 summer tour. The tour will hit 51 venues beginning with the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut for a two-night stand on May 28 & 29 and will end on September 15 in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center.
Pollstar named the Dave Matthews Band the #1 touring artist of the past decade. In only 10 years from 2000 to 2009, the band brought in close to $259 million with tickets sales of 11.6 million. During this same time period, Billboard Boxcore estimated the group drew $505 million and 11.2 million tickets, which does not include any gigs at festivals.
More than likely due to the economy, 2010 tickets sales have been down, but still debuted at the #1 event ticket overall during the week of February 28 but dropped to #11 in March. Last year many venues were sold out, but this is not the case this touring round. A year break may just be what the band needs and hopefully the economy will turn around, which will certainly get a rise in ticket sales.
