Since making its debut in 1997 on Broadway, Disney’s The Lion King has become extremely successful. It is actually the most successful musical in Broadway history. The Lion King is a musical based on the very popular animated children’s movie from 1994 that has the same name. The Broadway show is produced by Disney Productions and features its actors in animal costumes and presents other giant hollow puppets in its show. The Lion King made its debut on July 8th, 1997 at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota and it was a major hit. It then officially opened on Broadway shortly after at the New Amsterdam Theater on November 13th, 1997. Now, almost 18 whole years later with over 6,700 performances, it has made over one billion dollars which makes it the highest grossing musical currently on Broadway today.
