Mamma Mia! is a stage musical based on the songs of ABBA, composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus both former members of the band. The musical was written by British Playwright Catherine Johnson. ABBA is a Swedish pop/dance group and they were one of the most internationally popular pop groups of all time. Although the musical is inspired by the song Mamma Mia, the plot was not created after it, but instead it is a whole new fictional plot. There is a film adaptation of this musical, having exactly the same plot and all the singing with the same title and was released in July 2008.
The plot revolves around a 20-year-old woman, Sophie who is getting married to her fiance, Sky. She thought she would like her father to walk her down the aisle but she doesn’t know who her father was. Determined to find out who her father was, she sent three wedding invitations to three men whom she discovered in her mother, Donna’s old diary, believing that one of them must be her father. All the fun and excitement will unfold once the three men and Donna’s good old friends arrive, bringing back all the memories they thought were long gone.
