Toby Keith Pays Homage To Brooks and Dunn
Brooks and Dunn, recently announced that they would be calling it quits. The legendary duo’s split is amicable. There is no bad blood, just time for the show to end. To commemorate the group’s very fruitful career, they are going out on a Last Rodeo tour. Having been one of country music’s pillars and icons, their peers are speaking out on their behalf. One of those individuals is country music star, Toby Keith.
Though today, Keith is one of the biggest names in country music, that wasn’t always the case. At one time, he was an opening act for Brooks and Dunn. Looking back on those times, he had a few things to say about the duo.
“It was four acts on the bill if you really want to hear some openers,” Toby tells The Boot. “Keith Urban opened, Montgomery Gentry was second, I was third, and Brooks & Dunn were [the headliners]. Kix and Ronnie asked me to open for them when I first came out in ’93-’94 … I did some shows with them. I was the very opening act on that tour, but they always treated me really cool, and we remain friends today.
When asked about the split Toby mentioned that he was fine with it, though he appeared to feel a bit nostalgic. He went on to compliment the two men, mentioning that Ronnie had a great voice and all of the ventures and hobbies Kix is into. Overall, he felt that the group had a successful run and today, only wishes the best for them.
