News In Concerts

Red opened on April 1st at the John Golden Theatre in New York, New York. The biographical drama about Mark Rothko impressionist painter and written by John Logan was a hit on stage at John Golden Theater. This awesome play came directly from London where fans lined up at the Domar Warehouse to partake of the amazing play with rave reviews from last December.

The American stage actually see Michael Grandage as the director and the same principal cast that were seen in London. Alfred Molina portrays Rothko while Eddie Redmayne is his assistant, Ken. Rothko is notoriously mercurial and Ken happens to be an aspiring artist.

The entire play is 90 minutes long with covers a two year time period in the life of Rothko in the late 1950’s and he works on a creation of a series of murals to be used in the Four Seasons restaurant in Midtown Manhattan.

On March 11, previews of the production began with tickets ranging in price from $25 to $117 for regular seats and premium seats costing anywhere from $175 to $230.

The performance of Red is a limited engagement booking through June 27. Performances are during the evenings at 7pm on Tuesday, and Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm. Matinees are scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and again on Sunday at 3pm.

Reviews of this amazing performance include:

Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck “…Molina is absolutely superb as the Russia-born Rothko, anchoring the proceedings with a ferocious intensity that never wavers.”

New York Times Ben Brantley “…a study in artist appreciation, a portrait of an angry and brilliant mind that asks you to feel the shape and texture of thoughts.”
