Fly Away to Neverland with Peter and the Gang

17th January 2011 | Category: Theater

Pirates. Crocodiles. Flying. Tinker Bell. Never Growing Up. All that are associated with the place called Neverland, the home town of Peter Pan, the boy who does not want to grow up. He can fly and he is the leader of the lost boys who are all looking for a mother to take care of them. Thrown in the story are three Darling children who fly back to Neverland with Peter, Tinker Bell, Peter’s tiny companion, and Captain Hook, the meanest pirate there has ever been (unless the crocodile is near and he becomes as scared as a mouse!).

The adventure began many year ago with this J.M. Barrie’s creation that has survived through the ages. Its story has been passed on from generation to generation, and now it comes in illustrative story books and movies, too. Peter Pan has indeed gone so far that sometimes its variations even talk about a sequel. One particular adaptation talks about Peter losing his memories. The other is about a grown up Peter.

Whatever the story, the protagonist is the same. The courageous, cavalier boy who does not want to be told off by any adult is here to stay, and now you can experience his musical genius by watching the play, too. If you have already watched the movies and short films and read the book, the only thing left to do now is to watch him and his friends perform live!

Surely you would want to see how he battles against the evil Captain Hook! Plus there’s the cute and adorable Tinker Bell who has got an inkling of courage, too. The lost boys, Michael, John and Wendy Darling will also be there to treat you to a good time. If you are enthusiastic about this production, you better get your Peter Pan tickets and prepare now!

Happily Ever after with Shrek Continues in Broadway

14th January 2011 | Category: Theater

There are a lot of people who believe in the concept of ever after. But most of the fairy tales that are shown in movies always display the damsel in distress and the charismatic prince falling in love with each other, battling one great obstacle and then living happily ever after. However, this is not always the case in real life. The princess may be a middle aged maiden waiting for the love of her life and the prince may be a bankrupt broker. Things are more complicated and the concept of happily ever after seems so far away.

If you loved the Shrek movies, you will most definitely love to hear that it has finally been adapted into a Broadway musical. Now you favorite ogre who rescued the lovely princess Fiona will enchant you with his wits and appeal despite his ogre features. This is an example of the many masterpieces that have tried to deviate from the “good looking couple falling in love with each other stereotype in the movies”. Because of their unique offering, many loved the Shrek movies and now the fan-base has moved to the Broadway adaptation. It is expected that the thrill that accepted the movies will also be seen on the Broadway viewers.

Fun, cool and hip music will resonate as the play progresses and the stage setting is a breathtaking view. The cast have also mastered spontaneous laughter and coordination, albeit their adlibs, which makes everything flow smoothly. This is a perfect production that tells the tale that many have fallen in love with. If you get your Shrek tickets now, you will understand how a beautiful princess can fall for the ogre who has a good character and wits despite less than average human features. Looks are not the only measure of quality, so they say, and Shrek is the best example of this.
