Cirque du Soleil 2012 Tickets

10th April 2012 | Category: Theater

Founded by Guy Laliberté, Daniel Gauthier and Gilles Ste-Croix in 1984, Cirque du Soleil has grown a lot with now over 4,000 experienced people in the arts of circus and street entertainment from over 40 countries in the world. Cirque started with only one show but their growth was so fast that the run from the year 1990 – 2000, their show has expanded to 19 shows in over 271 cities in the world.

The beginning of Cirque wasn’t easy. Without the Quebec government grant of $1.5 million that they received for Quebec’s 450th anniversary celebration of the French explorer Jacques Cartier’s discovery of Canada, they wouldn’t have been able to stand up so easily after a financial turmoil. That was when the famous Cirque du Soleil was born after its name was changed from “La Fête Foraine”.

The next year they received another funding and that was when they utilized the skills of Guy Caron from the National Circus School. He made Cirque more theatrical and character-driven and removed performing animals. This change has helped define what Cirque really is making it a contemporary circus that remains today. Their worldwide success is attributed to their synthesis of circus styles from around the world. They don’t focus to just one single show to tour the world but instead they incorporate the traditions, theme and storyline to the places they visit. The audience is drawn to their live music performance with the performers themselves changing the props instead of stagehands.

The success of the show through the years has been so big that more people are employed in many parts of the world and the show generates estimated annual revenue of more than US$810 million. Over 90 million people have seen Cirque worldwide and this number is continually growing. The shows of Cirque in Las Vegas alone are seen by more than 9,000 people per night.

At the moment, several more shows are being created around the world, a television deal is being sorted out, and a women’s clothing line has been opened. The company didn’t stop there as they are still working on much more such as building spas, nightclubs and restaurants.

Cirque received numerous prizes and awards such as a Bambi Award (1997), Drama Desk Awards (1991 and 1998), four Primetime Emmy Awards and three Gemini Awards. Not only that, they also have their very own star embedded on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Cirque du Soleil with shows such as Totem, Zarkana, Iris, Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour, and Amaluna is continually touring around the world. Do not miss a chance to see this very talented and entertaining group in your city. Tales of courageous and gallantry are never lost but always admired and celebrated. Regardless of the recipient, each one is gains a unique level of respect and admiration that supersedes prejudice and stereotype in a manner that is fitting for the person that the story relates to. However, in some cases the recipients of such a prestige is not a person. History has shown that through the bloody harshness of war and fights, there are some who rise to the occasion, not just on the battlefield but the exemplification of certain traits and skills that seem to redeem the worlds lust for power and death. And then, there are those which are not attributed to people but rather their animal companions.

War has always brought about the good and bad in people, and the best and worst out of situations. Sadly, not everyone is spared from war. Animals and pets have often been used on the battlefield to assist with the movement, where dogs have been used to transport supplies, sniff out explosive or simply to raise moral amongst the men and women digging deep in the trenches and out on the front lines. In the grand scheme of things, these heroes are the ones that go on forgotten but in almost every case prove to be the greatest loss in every battle.

The tale of War Horse was adapted from a children’s novel detailing the events of World War 1. A young man named Albert owns a horse named Joey that is sold to the cavalry and shipped to the country of France. Joey finds himself in the thick of the war, taking fire from both sides and aiding both of them as he continues through the war seemingly alone. His owner, Albert, has not forgotten his beloved horse and embarks on a journey through the trenches in an effort to find him and bring him back home. The story details the adventures of Joey as he accompanies the British, Germans and even French in each individual story of survival during the harshest of times.

The success of the story has done so well that it has reached an international stage through the Steven Spielberg directed movie of the same name. Alongside this, an exceptionally well written stage production has also been made that was frequently shown in the New London theatre but is now on an international tour and currently touring in the United States.

If anything, the current success of the movie is something to move on and prove that this success of the stage production. Shrek the Musical 2012 Tours and Tickets

13th March 2012 | Category: Theater

The animated adventure, Shrek, hit the movie screens some 10 years ago and has managed to provide a long standing emphasis on the world of movies today. Produced by Dreamworks, it came as a surprise hit within the world of family movies, providing content that would appease every type of audience. The added humour was definitely a positive factor in providing adults with much more entertainment than children, where some would not be instantly identifiable without acquired knowledge.

The Shrek franchise has evolved further than just a few movies. It was originally based off a book called SHREK! created by William Steig in 1990, and served as the basis for the original movie series. Not only has there been 4 successful movies, with the possibility of a 5th, but the series has also expanded to a number of spin off short films, comic adaptations, video games, books, themed studio located in Singapore and even a Musical performance, which has proved vastly successful and also gives its own twist on the fairytale drama.

Currently on tour within the United States and United Kingdom, Shrek the Musical continues the story with all the beloved main characters of the original series. Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Pinocchio and even Lord Farquaad all return in the Broadway production as the main characters of the show. Created under the musical talents of Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, the plot details the events similar to the first movie but with an enlightening addition and change of pace from the movie production. It details the events of Shrek who quests with Donkey in order to rescue Princess Fiona from a fire breathing dragon. Lord Farquaad stands in Shreks attempts of love and success, as well as a gang of fairy tale misfits, which adds joyful adventure and humour to the mix, making this a spectacularly comedic musical.

The show originally began in 2008, opening and performing only in Seattle and ran for over 12 months before closing in January 2010. This was not however due to lack of attendance but rather because of the exuberant performances of the cast and the need for the Broadway musical to tend to an international audience, prompting a tour of the United States during the 2010 year. The schedule of the international tour saw the show reach Israel, West End (London), Gdynia (Poland), Madrid and also set to appear in Paris. The show was revamped and altered slightly to appeal to each variance in country and its audience members but did not detract from the original lovability of the show and its musical performances.

The Shrek Musical has been nominated for a number of Musical and Theatrical performance awards over the past years since its creation and has even won a few, but that has not tainted or embellished the image of the show one bit, still providing a consistently high quality performance each and every time. The musical has enough to cater to viewers of every age and is a stage production that should not be missed. One of the timely classics of a generation, The Wizard of Oz has managed to supersede its creation year of 1939 and continually maintain a presence in the world of theatre today. Surprisingly, the story took precedence over a number of different mediums, originally as a book, then produced as a musical before reaching legendary status as a movie. Not only is the movie considered one of the greatest of all time, but the various stage performances that were further produced as a result of the movie are considered classics in their own right. The movie itself, encompassing musical performances as well as well scripted and produced filmmaking opened it up for an easily and lovable immediate stage adaptation to follow on with its legacy.

Originally released in 1939, the story of the Wizard of Oz takes place in Kansas following the main character Dorothy Gale (played by Judy Garland). Her life seems somewhat average until a series of events happen her upon a fortune teller. The fortune teller knows of Dorothy’s situation which has caused her to run away from home and convinces her to return, stating that Dorothy’s aunt is ill and that a tornado is fast approaching. Amidst the chaos, Dorothy ends up in the Land of Oz, a mysterious location where she meets a number of significant characters and forms friendships as well as rivalries in her journey to meet Wizard of Oz in an effort to get back home. The film was also deemed ‘culturally significant’ by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Items and themes used in the film have also become profound cultural treasures. The Ruby Shoes have been very popular items in the past, as has the premise of a yellow brick road.
