The Foo Fighters, July 4th 2015

3rd June 2015 | Category: Concerts

The Foo Fighters began after the breakup of Nirvana, following the death of Kurt Kobain. Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana was the band’s creator. The band was an almost instant hit, and has become one of the top rock bands in existence. Their fan base includes David Letterman, who invited them to play one of his farewell shows leading to his retirement from television. To celebrate their twentieth anniversary, the band will play a concert on Independence Day at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The show will also highlight music from their latest album release from the fall of 2014, ‘Sonic Highway’. This show is the kick-off for a North American swing of a tour that also reaches many cities around the world.
The album, ‘Sonic Highway’ features eight songs recorded in eight different cities across the nation, featuring a number of popular artists playing with the band. Some of these performers will be joining the Foos for the D.C. show. They are Joan Jett, Gary Clark Jr., Trombone Shorty,  Heart, Buddy Guy, LL Cool J, featuring DJ Z-Trip, and D.C.’s own Trouble Funk. This all-day affair will also include some great BBQ, a motorcycle rally and fireworks.
The set list on this tour varies widely amongst the number of shows slated. Beyond the music from the latest album, there will be of course be numbers reaped from their most popular fare. The radio-friendly ‘Learn to Fly’ has been played extensively on this tour. ‘This is a Call’ tells Grohl’s story of morphing from Nirvana’s drummer to his lead in this band. ‘Stacked Actors’ relays his disgust for the Hollywood scene, where he lived for a year and a half before moving to Virginia. These are a small sample of the extensive catalogue of music produced by the band. Cover music played during the tour carries the flags of a variety of artists. Of these selections, a few of the favorites are ‘Detroit Rock City’ from Kiss, ‘Stay With Me’ originally sung by Rod Stewart as a member of The Faces, and ‘Under Pressure’ from a collaboration of Queen and David Bowie.
