The Avalanches Speak About the New Album

10th September 2020 | Category: Concerts

Having released a handful of singles so far this year, The Avalanches have also announced a new album, titled We Will Always Love You.

This is also the title of their single from February that featured Blood Orange.

The group shared a few details about the album on their official Instagram. However, the release date and other details are still to be announced.

They posted about the album art which was designed by Jonathan Zawada along with the caption explaining the concept.

The sleeve features Ann Druyan (Creative Director of the Voyager Golden Record Project), “who’s cosmic love story inspired this music.”

“In keeping with the album’s theme of everlasting love as an undying vibration, Ann’s image was run through a spectrograph, turned into sound, and back again,” The Avalanches wrote. “The image remains hidden, deep within in the grooves of the music, for you to discover if you wish.”

The Avalanches call the record “an exploration of the vibrational relationship between light, sound and spirit.” It will be available for pre-order next week, with more details to follow soon.

The Avalanches singles from this year have featured some notable collaborators. “Wherever You Go” featured Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry, Clypso, and The Clash’s Mick Jones, and “Running Red Lights” featured Rivers Cuomo and Pink Siifu.

It’s been four years since The Avalanches released their second album, Wildflower, which took 16 years to follow up their 2000 debut.

The band’s co-founder Darren Seltmann had said the album was starting out as “ambient world music”, but it was still moving in different directions and would feature both samples and live music.

The current member Robbie Chater later revealed that Seltmann had left the group by 2006, “we stopped working together… I was always making stuff and getting on with it, and the new record wasn’t materialising quickly. He had a kid, a family, and I guess he realised before I did that it was going to take a long time.”
