ABBA will be releasing brand new music in 2021 as part of their long-awaited reunion, as well as launching a holographic tour.

Newly recorded music from the pop icons was first confirmed in April 2018. At the time, two songs “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down” were revealed. The tracks were described as “very danceable” and “timeless, more reflective”.

The new tracks are to be followed by a hologram tour, which was first detailed way back in October 2016, with ABBA’s holographic counterparts bringing the new songs to life.

ABBA split in 1982 and reunited in 2016 at a private event marking the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between songwriters Ulvaeus and Andersson. So, this will be the Swedish quartet’s newest material after 35 years.

Announcing their first foray into the studio in 35 years, ABBA said in their initial statement:

“We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”

About the decision to go ahead with the ABBA avatar tour, in which all the members will appear as their younger selves, they said the following.

“We are exploring a new technological world, with Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined.”
Andersson added: “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”

ABBA are one of the most successful pop groups ever in the UK, producing 9 Number 1 singles and 9 Number 1 albums across their career. Their greatest hits collection ABBA Gold is one of the biggest selling albums of all time in the UK.
