The Best November Festivals Around the World

3rd November 2023 | Category: Concerts

November is a month that’s not really warm and not really cold. It’s directly between the summer and warm winter traditions, both of which can get pretty crazy. So, many just assume that there’s nothing fun to do in November, but that is not actually true.

We are here to introduce you to some of the best November festivals around the globe – from techno festivals in Iceland to lantern festivities in Thailand, we have a bit of something for everybody.

Dia de los Muertos

Where: Mexico and also Worldwide

When: Oct 31 – Nov 2

Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican festival honoring the dead. As the name says, Day of the Dead, is a 3-day celebration of all loved ones that have sadly passed away.

Although celebrations are held across the globe, the biggest is in Mexico City, Mexico. This is just the focal point but wherever you go, you won’t be wrong. Another place that’s quite famous is Oaxaca. The entire point of the Day of the Dead is to welcome back the souls of the dead who return to the real world for a day on November 1st. It is believed that they pass over to this side in the night between October 31st and November 1st, and they have 24 hours here before they must return to the land of the dad.

That is why people decorate and put up altars with photos and food to encourage souls to visit them as they want to celebrate them for that day.

Iceland Airwaves

Where: Reykjavík, Iceland

When: Nov 2 – Nov 4

At the same time that the Day of the Dead ends, another festival begins on the other side of the world. Iceland, a country famous for being a bit isolated from others as it’s an island, is hosting a cool music festival at the beginning of the month.

The festival is a music event, so the focus is on live shows and sets by industry’s leading techno and psytrance performers. But there’s more to Iceland Airwaves than meets the eye. Airwaves brings together a massive crowd of festival-goers who enjoy events such as Tomorrowland. It’s among the most popular techno festivals, right there with Awakenings and Sónar. Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Reykjavik to celebrate music and share good vibes with others in the abandoned airplane hangar where everything began in 1999. Today, the musical event is held to celebrate the Icelandic music scene, as well as promote international artists.

Lewes Bonfire

Where: England

When: Nov 5

The movie V for Vendetta is a movie referencing the legendary Guy Fawkes Night, or the Gunpowder Treason Day. Marked on the night on November 5, the event represents a plot to blow up the entire House of Lords using gunpowder and thus assassinate the king James I (along with his entire parliament) in 1605. The assassination attempt was unsuccessful, but it left a big mark on the society of that age. Centuries later, the date was turned into the famous Bonfire Night, or the Lewes Bonfire.

In fact, the Bonfire Night is celebrated across the UK, but Lewes Bonfire refers to a more extreme celebration of the event. Lewes is a city near Sussex. Each Bonfire Night, the town of Lewes celebrates by bringing out flaming torches, typically held by costumed participants cosplaying as Vikings, pirates, etc., who also drag burning barrels of tar behind them. The main thing is the chant ‘Kill the Pope’, a quite unusual and for many, weird chant, but that’s Lewes Bonfire for you.

Diwali

Where: India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc.

When: Nov 10 – Nov 15

Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights. Celebrated across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, etc., Diwali is among the holiest of Hindu holidays taking place in November. The dates are not set in stone, so please check the dates before booking accommodation and flights to India or any other country of your choosing. If you want to participate in Diwali, you should know that this is the most important holiday for Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and even some Buddhists. In total, over a billion people celebrate it each year, making it not just big in India, but also worldwide.

The significance of the festival lies in the battle (and win) of good over bad, light over darkness. As said, this is a lights festival, which means there are numerous lantern-releasing traditions, along with fireworks, candles, etc. Oh, and the best thing about Diwali is that celebrations typically last up to 5 days, so there’s more than enough time to enjoy the festivities with loved ones.

Chang Mai Lantern Festival

Where: Thailand

When: Nov 27 – Nov 28

Another fantastic event you should not miss are the fantastic Chang Mai Lantern festivals taking place every November in Thailand. There are two festivals that are jointly referred to as the Thailand Lantern Festivals. Yi Peng and Loy Krathong, the Thai Lantern Festivals, take place on the same day. Yi Peng refers to the practice of releasing swarms of lanterns into the sky with friends and loved ones, while Loy Krathong refers to the practice of letting lotus-shaped baskets down float down the river.

Both are magnificent displays of lights made by lanterns being released by participants as a symbol of letting the bad things go and ushering in the light. Yi Peng, the Thai Sky Lantern Festival, is celebrated in norther006E Thailand. The biggest celebrations take place in Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of the Lanna Kingdom, making this a Lanna festival. Meanwhile, Lou Krathong is a purifying event honoring the Goddess of Water. Participants release baskets with candles and flowers down the river and other waterways.

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour 2024 International Schedule

3rd October 2023 | Category: Concerts

The Eras Tour is slowly shaping up to be one of the biggest music tours in the world. It is certainly Swift’s biggest and most important tour to date, and how could it not be? It celebrates all 10 albums (called eras) of Swift’s incredible career.

The tour began in March this year, but it’s not going to end anytime soon – it’s going to last well into November 2024!

If you want to see the whole schedule for the 2024 era of the Eras Tour, scroll down.

A Brief Wrap up of the Tour So Far

The tour, Swift’s sixth and biggest tour so far, officially started on March 17, 2023. The first show was held in Glendale, Arizona, and it was rapidly followed by a string of highly successful shows across the USA.

However, the last two segments of the tour so far took place outside of the USA, as Taylor headed to Mexico in August for a four-day fest, after which she made a brief break. The tour is set to continue briefly in November again, with three scheduled shows in Brazil.

At the end of the tour, Swift will have held 146 shows in total across 5 different continents. The social and economic impact of the tour is difficult to predict, but it is said that the concerts even affected the US economy – which is more than can be said about most concert tours in history.

The Eras Tour 2024 Dates

The tour hits a pause in November after Swift finishes with the three shows in Brazil, after which she goes on a break until February. The first concert in February is on February 7, and the location? Japan. The final show of the Eras Tour will take place in Toronto, Canada. In October, Taylor Swift is also releasing a film called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, a concert film documentary that is already smashing records worldwide.

5 Biggest Techno Festivals in Europe

14th September 2023 | Category: Concerts

Electronic music is among the widest genres of music in the world. It’s not pop music, but its popularity is nearly the same, as evidenced by the number of techno music festivals scattered across the globe each year.

In this article, we bring you the biggest techno festivals in Europe, accepting fans and electronic music enthusiasts from all corners of the Earth. Enjoy!

EXIT Festival, Serbia

EXIT Festival might not be of the same size as Tomorrowland, but it’s quickly shaping to become a match for the Belgian event. Each year, nearly 200,000 people flock to the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia. Before the pandemic, EXIT hit an all-time high with 215,000 visitors in 2017. However, the pandemic changed things dramatically, but that made the festival soar. A fun fact is that EXIT is the first major European festival to host over 180,000 attendees in 4 days a year after the pandemic.

The story of EXIT begins in 2000 with a student movement fighting for democracy and freedom in Serbia. The Yugoslavian elections in the same year caused the organizers to move the event from the University Park to the Fortress overlooking the river Danube. The next couple of years proved that EXIT is a serious contender for the techno music throne, which also sparked interest in privatizing the festival. That is why the founders decided to gift the festival to the city of Novi Sad, in an effort to keep it within the city.

Years later, and EXIT still keeps attracting thousands of visitors and winning awards. European Festivals Awards have declared EXIT the Best Major Festival twice, while U Festivals Awards awarded the event the Best European Festival Award in 2007.

The 4-day summer festival takes place each year in July, hosting over 1000 artists on 40 stages and music zones.

Tomorrowland, Belgium

Tomorrowland takes place during 2 weekends each July. In 2022, it was announced the festival would expand to 3 weekends instead of only 2. You can buy tickets right HERE.

It’s hard to say which one is the biggest as they are all quite massive, but the Belgian Tomorrowland seems to be the easiest one to recognize. It’s been referenced in a number of films and shows, and for many inexperienced listeners a true beacon of electro music across the globe. International Dance Music Awards have even named Tomorrowland the Best Musical Event of the Year five times already! Numerous other accolades and awards proudly decorate the Belgian festival, and there’s no doubt many other accolades are to follow in the coming years.

The large-scale festival dedicated to EDM music is held in Boom, Belgium. Boom is a smaller city in the Antwerp province, home to the De Schorre recreational park, the actual site of the festival.

Tomorrowland has been hosted in the same place since 2005, which is when the idea was born and executed by the brothers Manu and Michiel Beers. Over the years, the festival has grown considerably, and each year, over 500,000 people visit the Belgian techno fest. In 2023, it was reported that over 600,000 people visited Tomorrowland during the 6-day extravaganza.

A key thing about Tomorrowland is the stage setting, as that is perhaps one of the main things people see first when Tomorrowland is on. A recognizable massive stage always displays unmatched visuals, so it’s certainly one of the key festivals to visit during the year.

Sziget Festival, Hungary

From Boom and Novi Sad we move to the Serbian neighbor Hungary, and the famous festival Sziget. The Sziget Fesztivál is among the best and largest EU music festivals. Although it is on our list of techno festivals, Sziget is actually a large-scale music event honoring a wide scope of music genres, including rock, reggae, pop, and heavy metal. In other words, although electronic dance music makes up a massive part of Sziget, there’s more to the Hungarian fest than meets the eye.

First things first: Sziget is an annual music even taking place in August. Much like EXIT, it’s near the river Danube, a massive European river flowing through several European capitals. More specifically, Sziget is held on Óbudai-sziget, and island on the Danube in Northern Budapest. The island, whose name translates into Old Buda Island, is the biggest island on the river in Budapest.

Sziget also started as a student project and grew into an international festival. In 1993, Müller Péter Sziámi, Károly Gerendai and their friends decided to create an event to end the festival crisis in Budapest started by the loss of government funding. The first-ever Sziget festival was held that same year under the name Diáksziget. A couple of years later, the event caught the attention of Pepsi which decided to sponsor the event, and by the time 2002 rolled in, Sziget got its official name that still stands even today.

The fest hosts over 1000 artists and performances each year, which, along with its unique location, makes for a highly must-see experience for experienced festival-goers and EDM music fans.

Awakenings Festival, the Netherlands

If numbers are our primary way to select the biggest techno music festival in Europe, the Dutch Awakenings would certainly take the crown. This right here is among the biggest music events in the world, if not the biggest. Awakenings however, is not a single event – it’s a collection of events and parties taking place from Easter to New Years Eve.

There are two versions of the festival – the Awakenings Festival (happening indoors) and the Awakenings Summer Festival, which typically happens outdoors. The Summer Festival is currently among the largest events of this calibre in the world, and it was officially started in 2022.

However, let’s go back to the start. The very first Awakenings event was held in Gashouder of the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam in 1997. Since then, the festival has changed the location a few times, first by moving to Rotterdam and then Eindhoven, but eventually the Gashouder became the home of Awakeningsfeest once again.

As one of the most important events for electronic music in the world, Awakenings has influenced entire generations of artists and enthusiasts to create and enjoy EDM music. Today, dozens of events associated with the brand are taking place across EU and the world – including Australia, the USA, and Brazil. Nowadays, the Festival takes place in April (because of its association with Easter), while the Summer Festival takes place at Hilvarenbeek. The Summer Festival also takes place in July, just like Tomorrowland and EXIT.

Sónar, Spain

Exactly one year after the birth of Sziget, Spain got its own large-scale music spectacle with Sónar. Ricard Robles, Enric Palau, and Sergi Caballero teamed up and created the 3-day event as a way to celebrate not just music – although music is the focus – but also technology and creativity.

In short, Sónar is a 3-day event taking place in June each year in Barcelona. But in reality, the Sónar festival is much more than that. The debut event was known as the Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art, and in 2013, the spectacle grew to include the Sónar+D congress honoring technology and business. Today, it’s a true celebration of digital content, tech advancements, and the future of music. In a way, it’s the trendsetter among fests, as many trends and movements start right here in the heart of Barcelona, and then slowly trickle down to the rest of Europe once the gates of Sónar close.

When it comes to the music part, there are two parts of the event: the Sónar by Day and Sónar by Night. The Sónar by Day takes place during the day, when visitors get a chance to enjoy and experience an array of events and shows. Then, once the night falls, the Sónar by Night begins and lasts until the sun goes up. Both parts of the festival offer unique experiences for visitors, but the Sónar+D congress is the cherry on top as the nexus for cutting-edge art, music, and technology. A true outside-of-the-box, envelope-pushing event in the heart of Spain. You can get tickets for the festival HERE.

50 Cent’s 2023 Final Lap Tour Is Still Going Strong

25th August 2023 | Category: Concerts

When it comes to early 2000s hip-hop, one of the greats is definitely 50 Cent. From his first major-label album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ debut in 2003 to today, his career has earned him several awards and an international following. In fact, that old-school album is exactly what is being celebrated on his 2023 Final Lap tour.

The Final Lap

The tour is an homage to the 20th anniversary of the album and it will span over a hundred stops across the US and worldwide. Germany, Norway, France, the UK and Australia are just some of the locations where 50 Cents will perform. The tour began on July 21 but will continue well on towards the end of 2023 in November.

While it starts in the US, towards the end of September 50 Cent will be starting the international segment of the tour in the Netherlands. He will continue across Europe and beyond in India, Australia and New Zealand. The ambitious scope of the tour gets even more exciting when you consider that 50 financed a lot of the concerts himself and they sold out.

As for the song lineup, audiences can of course expect songs from Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. That said, listeners will also be able to hear some of his other great hits.

Opening the Show

As this is a huge international tour, 50 Cent is not going alone. Accompanying him will be Busta Rhymes and Jeremih, two talented artists who will open for 50 across his venues. With this trio in mind, from rapping to R&B, the Final Lap has shaped into a melodic masterpiece of lyrical prowess.

The trio is scheduled to conclude the North American segment on September 22 in Toronto, ON on the Budweiser Stage. Following this, the European and UK tour segment commences on September 28 in Amsterdam and extends until November. The tour will then proceed to Australia and New Zealand in December.
