{"id":32080,"date":"2021-12-21T04:56:49","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T12:56:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ticketcenter.com\/news\/?p=32080"},"modified":"2021-12-22T05:58:57","modified_gmt":"2021-12-22T13:58:57","slug":"jonathan-antoine-visits-the-mahaffey-on-his-first-u-s-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ticketcenter.com\/news\/concerts\/jonathan-antoine-visits-the-mahaffey-on-his-first-u-s-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Jonathan Antoine Visits the Mahaffey On His First U.S. Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jonathan Antoine | Caruso\" width=\"860\" height=\"484\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tlF-wFrukEU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 26-year-old U.K. sensation <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketcenter.com\/jonathan-antoine-tickets\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jonathan Antoine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is coming to the Mahaffey Theater Thursday, for a concert that will include selections from his new holiday album, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ChristmasLand<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, along with songs from all across the musical rainbow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He came to the full attention of his homeland as a contestant on Britain\u2019s Got Talent in 2012; even judge Simon Cowell was rendered speechless when Antoine \u2013 then just 17 \u2013 began to sing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Touring America, he says, \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">has always been a huge goal for me, personally. I\u2019ve always been aware that a lot of the people who really supported me, from the very start, have been American. Or North American.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAnd so being able to finally, actually interact with them \u2013 and see the faces of some of these people who have been with me virtually for the last decade \u2013 is incredibly gratifying.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He would have made the crossing sooner \u2013 on the occasion of his 2014 debut album, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tenore<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, or its followup, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Believe <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(both of which topped the classical record charts in England). But one thing or another kept a tour from happening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">His third release, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Going the Distance<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, was released in the early days of the pandemic, in 2020. Not a chance of taking that one across the pond for live shows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s a very bizarre time to be doing this,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> he laughs. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m glad to be able to be doing this at all. I have always had this idea that \u2018oh, when we start cracking America it\u2019s going to be the Big Time,\u2019 but in traditional Jonathan Antoine fashion, things must always go an alternate route. Nothing I do is straightforward.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That appearance on Britain\u2019s Got Talent, as a duet with his high school friend Charlotte Jaconelli, became the most viewed television audition of any performer in history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cowell, as usual mincing no words, suggested right then and there that Jonathan was the talent, and he recommended \u201closing\u201d Charlotte and going it solo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But Antoine declined, and the TV appearance led to a record contract for the duo (both of their albums went Top Ten in the U.K.). They agreed to go their separate ways, by mutual consent, in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI can\u2019t really put into words the feeling that performing gives me,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> he says. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI suppose in a way that\u2019s why I do it. I can channel that energy into the music. It is empowering to me.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAt the meet-and-greets I do, there are these guys who are like six-foot-fifteen, big powerful guys, and when they reach out to shake my hand I can feel that their hand is tremoring. \u2018Cause they\u2019re excited and they\u2019re nervous to meet \u2026 me. I\u2019m a big, round 5-foot-9 fellow from the U.K. I\u2019m not an imposing figure. But for some reason, to them there must be some mythos about me.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTo be able to see yourself as other people see you, I think that very, very few people get that privilege.
