The play is scheduled to officially open on 13 December with previews beginning on 1 November in New York.

Readers have enjoyed the story of a heroic lawyer fighting injustice in Alabama 1930s for decades so we expect the play to be a massive hit. Published in 1960, Harper Lee’s book became a global phenomenon with more than 50 million copies in print to date. In the Library of Congress on books that most affected people’s lives, To Kill a Mockingbird is second, right after Bible. It is considered as one of the greatest classics of modern American literature and has been voted America’s best-loved novel last week during the finale of The Great American Read. Lee wrote the book about her own childhood in Alabama and Atticus Finch based on her own father.

The amazing story of Finch family will be brought to life and see a whole other light as a Broadway play. A stage version of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer–winning novel has been running since 1990, a large-scale production of the book has never been attempted on Broadway until now. Justice and tolerance in the American South will be vividly brought to life on the Broadway stage.

Jeff Daniels will star as Atticus Finch while adult actors Celia Keenan-Bolger, Will Pullen, and Gideon Glick will appear in the roles of the kids, Scout, Jem and Dill. Sorkin explained the decision for not casting kids.

“In a novel, we’re okay with listening to children talk and watching them behave because the author, in this case, Harper Lee, has made sure it’s of interest to adults. On a Broadway stage, we’re not going to be able to watch children for that long.”

The whole cast spent a lot of time in workshops, reading dialogues while the script was written and rewritten so they all were involved in the production of the play. The creator of the play prepared us to expect some changes comparing to the book. Aaron Sorkin explained he refuses to present the play written the same way the book was written 57 years ago. The time has changed, the circumstances have changed and it simply wouldn’t be of interest but he promises that the script “does not derogate or depart from the spirit of the novel, nor alter the fundamental natures of the characters in the novel.”

Buy your tickets here and witness this epic fight against racism.

To Kill a Mockingbird

Show Date and Time: Saturday, 3 November, 8 pm

Show Location: Shubert Theatre- New York, New York

Show Duration: TBA

Age Restriction: all ages

We are counting down days to the world premiere of Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s new play, directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, To Kill…

[72

post-31187","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-theater
["GET
