The Broadway show is produced by Disney Productions and features its actors in animal costumes and presents other giant hollow puppets in its show. The Lion King made its debut on July 8th, 1997 at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota and it was a major hit. It then officially opened on Broadway shortly after at the New Amsterdam Theater on November 13th, 1997. Now, almost 18 whole years later with over 6,700 performances, it has made over one billion dollars which makes it the highest grossing musical currently on Broadway today.<\/p>\nThe Lion King Broadway musical features many of the same songs that you have heard in the 1994 animated children\u2019s movie. In June 2006, The Lion King Broadway musical was moved to Minskoff Theater, where it still plays today instead of where it was originally debuted at the New Amsterdam Theater. It currently plays eight times a week at the Minskoff Theater.<\/p>\n
