The Who Celebrates 50 Years

12th August 2015 | Category: Concerts

Once known as one of the loudest rock bands in the world, The Who’s 2015 tour is celebrating 50 years of one of the most innovative rock bands in history. Presently The Who is in the midst of a two-leg, 38-stop concert tour of North America. With the seventeen-stop first leg of the tour nearly complete, fans can still plan to see the band on any of its planned 21 stops of the second part of its North American tour. The second portion of the tour starts in San Diego on September 14 and ends on November 4 in Philadelphia.
With both Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, the remaining founding members of this iconic band, in their 70s, this might be one of the last times in which fans will get to experience The Who live. Fans can expect set lists that explore the bands early and hits like “Who Are You,” and “I Can’t Explain,” and “My Generation” that turned rock music on its ears in the 1960s and continued to experiment with form with the release of ‘Tommy’ in 1969 and ‘Quadrophenia’ in the 1973.

While they might be a little grayer and a lot older, fans should not expect either Mr. Daltrey or Mr. Townshend to ‘act their age’ on stage. Fans at all stops on the current tour have been treated to Roger’s iconic vocals and looping microphone twirls while Pete displayed many of the old antics that made him one of the most recognizable performers on the planet. While fans will recognize many of the bands hits, do not expect The Who to be content with merely belting out the songs. They are among Rock’and’Roll’s greatest innovators and continue to explore new ideas and subtle changes in meanings in the music that has placed this band on the forefront of rock for 50 years.
