Manchester Arena to Reopen in Early September with John Legend Concert

10th July 2017 | Category: Concerts

A statement from the venue confirmed that Manchester Arena is set to reopen in early September.

The venue is being renovated after it endured some serious damage in a bombing attack at an Ariana Grande concert on 22 May.  The bomb was detonated moments after Ariana’s concert had finished. The bombing left 22 people killed and 59 injured. Due to a severe impairment all summer concerts have been either cancelled or rearranged.

Summer repertoire included Celine Dion, Take That, Blink-182, Kings of Leon, Radiohead, Paw Patrol Live Kids show, WWE and many others.

A spokesman for the Arena said: “Whilst it was always our intention to honour our existing summer events, the damage caused to the main public area outside of the arena has left us with no other option than to remain closed until September.”

“We are currently working with the promoters of our June, July and August shows to find suitable solutions for all those events affected by this unprecedented closure.”

Renovation work is underway and the builders are working very hard to meet the date in September. It hasn’t been known yet whether there will be an open benefit gig at the Arena in honour of those killed and injured in the horrific suicide bombing but the shows officially listed as the first gigs in Manchester Arena are John Legend on 16 September and Nick Cave on 25 September.

The statement also said: “We will continue to keep you informed as much as possible on our official re-opening date and up and coming show information. We still have some great events to announce for 2017 and of course 2018.”

John Legend, the Oscar, Golden Globe and 10 times Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter, returns to Manchester Arena this autumn.

He is promoting his fifth album Darkness and Light released in December 2016. This legendary pop icon and smooth soul singer will kick the shows off in Newcastle, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and Cardiff before finishing in Birmingham throughout September.

Tickets for the concert are on sale right now and you can enjoy your favourite singer and the support comes from a very special guest Jack Savoretti.
