James Taylor was born on March 12, 1948 in Boston. He started playing cello and guitar at an early stage. During his college days, he started performing with his band ‘flying machine'. In 1968, He made his studio debut with his album ‘James Taylor' which appealed to a niche audience. Soon after, he inked a deal with Warner Bros. and released his second album ‘Sweet Baby James'. The album contained popular singles, such as, ‘Fire' & Rain' and was nominated for a Grammy. His first Grammy win came with his next album ‘Mud slim and the blue horizon'. His next few albums, though popular with fans, were not big commercial success. In 1976, his compilation ‘Greatest hits' was released which is the highest selling folk music album even today. Since then, his career has seen major ups and down and he came back each time to record another hit. He's even cited as a source of inspiration by several artists who inadvertently follow his style.
Carole King was born on Feb 9, 1942. She was so much into music that she formed her first band while still in high school. She got together with his college friend Gerry Goffin, and they both recorded several hit singles, such as, ‘Will you love me tomorrow' and ‘Pleasant valley Sunday'. She began her solo career in the 60's and recorded several singles. In the 70's, her iconic album ‘Tapestry' was released. The album won 4 Grammies and was certified diamond. Since then she has recorded many albums which have gone either gold or platinum. She collaborated with James King in 1976 to release ‘thoroughbred'. Apart from being an avid musician, she has lent her voice many times to various environmental issues.
